'Pin-Stripe Cardigan' Pattern
please note - this is a downloadable PDF knitting pattern, and not a finished item of clothing
This cropped crew neck cardigan is knit in stockinette stitch with a 2 row stripe repeat. It features a large ribbed waist section, as well as cuffs, with a double knit button band. The stripes continue across all ribbed and double knit sections for a continuous look.
The cardigan is knit top down with a European shoulder construction. Stitches are cast on along the back shoulder, and a portion of German short rows are knitted, then the back is knitted flat until the under arm depth is reached. The front shoulders are then picked up and knitted flat while shaping the neck line until the under arm depth is reached, and then the front and back sections are connected with extra stitches cast on under the arms. The rest of the body is knit flat, with a stockinette portion until the under bust is reached, and then a large portion of rib around the waist.
Stitches are picked up along the front edge and a double knit button band is added, continuing the 2 row stripe pattern. The collar is then picked up and knitted above the button band. The sleeves are picked up and knitted in the rounds, with decreases to shape them into a tapered sleeve, with a long ribbed cuff.
All sections are knitted in 2 row stripes and some parts of the pattern are colour coded to show this visually
Equipment:
Recommended needle size - 4mm circular needles for stockinette (I knit the whole thing on 100cm cables and use magic loop for the sleeves, but this is personal preference)
3mm circular needles for ribbing / double knit
Yarn needle (to weave ends and bind off)
Scissors / embroidery scissors
Blocking mats
Wool wash (optional)
Stitch markers (for the neckline, and start/end of round)
6x 15mm buttons or smaller
Gauge:
21 stitches x 28 rows (in stockinette) for 4 x 4 inches / 10 x 10 cm
Sizes:
There is an intended 6 inches of positive ease, and finished garment measurements are for after blocking. For busts smaller than 30 inches there will be more positive ease. For busts larger than 66 inches there will be less positive ease
Yarn estimations:
Please note these estimations are made for holding one strand of Drops Soft Tweed as C1 and one strand of Baa Ram Ewe Donegal Twists DK as C2, with no modifications to the pattern and with a cropped finish. Yarn quantities may vary depending on any substitutions or changes to the pattern by the knitter
You may choose to purchase a small amount of extra yarn to account for weaving ends, starting new balls etc. OR if you don't want a cropped look
C1 - Drops Soft Tweed 50g per 130m
C2 - Baa Ram Ewe Donegal Twists DK 100g per 270m
(A, B, C, D) (E, F, G) (H, I, J)
Because the recommended yarns are not sold in 25g increments, you will need to round up the estimations to the next whole hank size per yarn. If you follow the pattern exactly, you’ll likely use slightly more C1
Recommended sleeve (19.75 inches):
Total yarn - (350g, 400g, 450g, 450g) (500g, 550g, 600g) (600g, 650g, 700g)

Each colour - (175g, 200g, 225g, 225g) (250g, 275g, 300g) (300g, 325g, 350g)
